Designing a 157 sq/m (1,670 sq/ft) pub and fine dining restaurant for Greene King, the country’s leading pub retailer and brewer, we sought to create a balance between traditional charm and an elevated dining experience. The Five Bells Pub, nestled in the heart of a picturesque village, holds a special connection to the local community, which was central to our design approach. We wanted the design to echo the history of the space while introducing a refined yet welcoming atmosphere.

Drawing on the heritage of the pub, we layered rich materials such as deep green walls, warm leather banquette seating, and dark wood furniture to evoke a sense of timelessness. A striking map wall feature became a focal point, displaying the nearby village in a custom illustration that anchors the space in its local history. The addition of exposed brick and a rustic fireplace brings warmth and authenticity, grounding the design in its surroundings.

The lighting design played a crucial role in achieving the intimate atmosphere. We installed bespoke pendant lights that add a soft, warm glow over the tables, enhancing the dining experience without overpowering the rustic aesthetic. This thoughtful lighting, combined with carefully selected accessories, creates an inviting environment where both casual pub-goers and fine dining patrons feel equally at home.
