Sathiyams is a 280 sq/m (3,014 sq/ft) fine dining Indian restaurant located in central London. The interior design seamlessly blends traditional Indian influences with modern, contemporary elegance, transforming this two-story building into an immersive dining experience. With its high ceilings and open-plan layout, the existing architecture provided an ideal foundation for creating a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, tailored to elevate the guest experience.

Modern Indian restaurant design with vibrant colours and cultural motifs

"We wanted a space that reflected Indian culture while feeling modern and accessible."

— Client’s vision for Sathiyams

The top floor is characterised by light off-white and beige tones, accented with rich saffron and brass details. This floor was designed to be vibrant and airy, perfect for daytime dining. The design balances warmth and energy, inspired by Indian spices, without overwhelming the senses. The integration of brass and saffron accents against a neutral backdrop keeps the space contemporary yet connected to its cultural roots.

"Creating a space that was both light and modern while staying true to the cultural inspiration was key."

On the lower floor, the design shifts to a more intimate, after-hours vibe. A deep monochrome blue palette, textured walls, and reflective ceiling vaults combine with red and brass accents to create a rich, atmospheric environment. This moody, bar-like space is ideal for evening dining or cocktails, where the interplay of light and shadows enhances the building’s existing structure. The lower level was designed to feel like an escape, offering guests a sophisticated yet relaxed experience.

"The lower floor was meant to feel like a completely different space, offering a unique after-hours atmosphere."

— Renata Drumond

The design across both floors is unified by a thoughtful use of textures and lighting. On the upper floor, large windows allow for natural light, while the lower floor relies on carefully positioned lighting to create a sense of intimacy. Custom finishes and bespoke lighting were selected to subtly reference Indian design, while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.

Sathiyams merges traditional Indian design elements with modern sophistication, offering a unique dining experience in the heart of London. The transformation of the existing building into a space of contrasts—between light and dark, contemporary and traditional—ensures that guests are immersed in both the cultural and modern elements of the design. Whether dining upstairs in a light, airy setting or enjoying cocktails downstairs in the moody, intimate space, Sathiyams provides a seamless blend of elegance and cultural authenticity.
